We can all agree that 2020 has been a year full of challenges and as far as we’re concerned, the difficult times are not getting any closer to being over. The most concerning problem we have going on right now is the global pandemic.

COVID-19 has been progressing differently all around the world, with the number of cases changing from a day to the other. It has had a huge impact on our lives, from the way we go to school to the way we socialize and so on.

Surely the quarantine has been difficult for all of us, each one of us also tackling different problems in our personal lives. Even so, despite all the horrible things this virus has brought upon us, having to adapt to living in isolation has helped us learn and develop new skills.

We figured out how to manage and make the most out of our resources. For example, since I can’t leave my house as often as I used to and I don’t want to put myself and my family at risk by ordering food, I learned how to cook, something that I would not have done if the isolation didn’t happen.

Spending a lot of time indoors can become boring so we took advantage of our free time and picked up new hobbies. I know plenty of people who made the best out of the situation we’re in and decided to try something new like playing the guitar or skateboarding.

With this big change, we started implementing technology more into our lives, like using video conferences for school, delivery apps to get our groceries and new social media apps to keep up with our classmates. We started spending more time online, getting closer to our friends and even meeting new people. Also, because of the increase in technology use, we are always informed, being up to date with all the news and being able to take part in events happening in the online medium.

Most importantly, we learned how to be respectful of others by wearing protective face masks and keeping our distance to stop the spread of this virus. We know what is happening to the world right now seems unreal and straight out of a movie but this doesn’t mean that covid-19 shouldn’t be taken seriously. Together we can beat this virus by respecting the regulations implemented by the authorities and listening to the recommendations given by doctors from all around the world.

We have a message for all the young people out there, even if we’re friends or we haven’t even met yet: you shouldn’t feel discouraged by the situation! On the contrary, try to make use of your resources and do something productive! We are optimistic and we want to pass that on to others. We are convinced that together, having the same goal and respecting the rules, we can go through everything more easily and the pandemic will end before we know it!
